Shudder Mountain adopted 27 August 1965 on 92J, as submitted in 1964 by Dick Culbert in association with Tremor Mountain, in turn named in 1951.

The namer felt that this was sufficiently removed from Tremor Mountain to warrant a distinct name. Previously occupied as a camera station for triangulation surveys.
