Origin Notes and History:

Adopted 6 May 1954 on 104K/8 by Geographic Board of Canada (T.5.54).

Recorded that the name was supplied by a Tahltan man said to be living at Telegraph Creek at the time. Recorded as meaning close to "mountains is mother of river or creek," but the translation to English was an approximation and the man was noted as not being a fluent English speaker. Recorded that the spelling is phonetic and likely not a comprehensive representation of the original word (January 1954 names list with remarks provided by Army Survey Establishment, file T.5.54, L.I. 2601875).
