Adopted 6 May 1954 on 104K/16 as a name that was commonly in use to refer to the mountain. Referred to as a "very prominent landmark overlooking the confluence of the Nahlin, Sheslay and Inklin Rivers" (L.I. 2601875, T.5.54). Likely named in association with Nahlin River and Plateau.

Recorded that Rose Dennis of Dease Lake, indicated that this Tahltan word means "water pouring down" pronounced Nah-ah-LEEN. Jackie Williams, Atlin, indicates this is similar to a Tlingit word meaning "walk up to the next village".
