Origin Notes and History:

Adopted 30 November 1944 on 94L/11 as proposed by the Hydrographic Survey, Department of Mines and Resources. Submitted as Churchill Creek, but Hizaza was recommended because it flows from a prominent hill in region (L.1.44). Hill subsequently named Hizaza Hill (L.1.53)

Hizaza recorded as being the Kaska (possibly Danezāgé’?) word for "hill" (Indian Vocabularies in Report of Geological Survey of Canada 1887-1888, p. 211B).
