Named after old-timer prospector Harry Rees, one of the first to explore the Fordibben Plateau area, and who travelled the region extensively; he died alone on the Mount Becher trail 20 November 1933, age 75. While conducting topographic surveys in 1934-35, N.C. Stewart, BCLS, found two cairns on top of this ridge that he believes were erected by Rees. The ridge overlooks the route which Mr. Rees followed many times travelling to Buttle Lake.

The summit near the southeast end of the ridge has long been known as Iceberg Peak, so-labelled on 92F/11, annotated in 1936 by C. S. Woods (file F.2.34). A 1930's survey party established "Celeste" station at the highest elevation along the ridge, and in recent years climbers haven't been able to resist dubbing the summit as "Mount Celeste."
