Adopted 7 April 1955 on Map 92M as a new name, suggested by a member of the Alpine Club of Canada who explored the area in 1953. The Glacier is at the head of the Taleomey River, which it gets its name from.

Taleomey is a modification of the name of the Talhyumuc ( or Talyumc) people, a subgroup of the Nuxalk First Nation, who once inhabited S Bentinck Arm. They knew the arm as Ats’aaxlh and had a large winter village, called Talyu, at the river’s mouth. Substantial log-booming grounds are located nearby. The narrows take their name from the river, as do the Taleomey Glacier and Tower. (Entry for Taleomey River)
