Taleomey is a modification of the name of the Talhyumuc ( or Talyumc) people, a subgroup of the Nuxalk First Nation, who once inhabited S Bentinck Arm. They knew the arm as Ats’aaxlh and had a large winter village, called Talyu, at the river’s mouth. Substantial log-booming grounds are located nearby. The narrows take their name from the river, as do the Taleomey Glacier and Tower. (Entry for Taleomey River)
