Adopted 3 April 1934 on C.327, as labelled on British Admiralty Chart 592, 1865, and on BC map 2A, 1920, and as identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer.

Origin/significance not known. Note that the 1861 manuscript drawn by the Officers of the Hecate (in Toponymy collection) identifies, but does not label, this particular island; the name appears on the first published edition, 1865, so presumably was added by the hydrographer's staff.
