Originally this lake drained west through an unnamed creek into Nelson Creek thence into the north end of Eagle Harbour. About 1915 this lake was dubbed "Eagle Lake" and the creek flowing southwesterly through it then west into Nelson Creek was named "Dick Creek". (note that nearby Eagle Creek did NOT drain Eagle Lake at the time). The name Eagle Lake was changed to Dick Lake c1929, possibly to avoid duplication, or to avoid confusion because it was NOT the source of nearby Eagle Creek. Dams were built c1960 at the west and south ends of this lake and spill-over channels were dug, so the lake now drains through Eagle Creek into the south end of Eagle Harbour.

Named in association with Dick Creek, in turn after William James Dick, 1872-1915, North Vancouver real estate and insurance agent. Born in Ontario, came to North Vancouver in 1904; served as alderman 1909, and again 1911-12. While searching for sources of water supply, he reportedly came upon this lake, which he dubbed "Eagle Lake". Upon hearing of the "discovery", Hanes named the source creek after him (date not cited, although Hanes held the position of City Engineer 1909-14). The lake is identified as Eagle Lake but the creek is not named on map "Greater Vancouver Available Sources of Water Supply" by W.C.Smith, Water Rights Branch, August 1915.

"Duck Lake" is an alternate name [no such evidence in BC files - this is probably a typo in federal records]
