First ascent (eastern face of NE peak of Mount Blanshard) credited to Sam Edge of Port Haney, and a companion, 1876.

Named after the late Sam Edge, who lived somewhere outside Haney, and who climbed this mountain in 1876; several members of the Edge family were still living in Haney in 1939 (letters inward #1387038 and # 1390968, files B.1.41 and L.1.56)
