"Name suggested by B.F. Jacobsen, who settled in the Bella Coola Valley prior to 1890. Mr. Jacobsen interested the Rev. Christian Saugstad, leader of a Norwegian colony in Minnesota, in moving to Bella Coola. The Rev. Saugstad and representatives of the colony visited the valley in the spring of 1894, were favourably impressed, and returned with the first contingent of settlers on October 30, 1894. The Rev. Saugstad was their pastor until his death in March 1897." (file B.1.35)
