Named by H.D. Parizeau, Hydrographic Service. After the Spanish naval vessel Saturnina, 7 guns, commanded by José Maria Narvaez. The Saturnina, in company with the San Carlos under Lt-Cdr Eliza, left Nootka Sound 5 May 1791 to explore the channels to the northeast of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, thereby locating the body of water now known as the Strait of Georgia.
