Origin Notes and History:

North Simpson River adopted 7 May 1959 on 82 O/4, not "North Branch Simpson River" as labelled on BC-Alberta Boundary sheet #13A, 1917.

Headwaters channel (labelled "North Branch Simpson River" on BC-Alberta Boundary sheet 13A, 1917) was originally understood to originate in the vicinity of 51° 04' 04" x 115° 50' 30" flow through Eohippus Lake thence continue southward into Simpson River; headwaters channel since determined to be contained in the natural prolongation of the valley, with Simpson Pass at its head.

Named in association with Simpson Pass and Simpson River, in turn referring to Sir George Simpson (1792-1860), governor of the Hudson's Bay Company in Canada, 1822-60; the pass through the Rocky Mountains that bears his name had been located by a party headed by Governor Simpson in 1841.
