[named c1922 by Frank Swannell, BCLS?] after brothers Arthur and Jack Shelford, pioneering settlers at Wistaria and pre-emptors of Lots 690 & 691. Jack & Sarah Shelford's son, Cyril, was the first child born in the hospital at Southbank - 1921. Cyril Shelford (1921-2001) represented the Omineca riding in the provincial legislature 1952-75, including terms as Minister of Agriculture in W.A.C.Bennett's Social Credit government; he is the author of several histories and anthologies, and co-authored the widely published "We Pioneered" with his uncle Arthur Shelford (1885-1979).
