Wallace Island adopted in the 18th Report of the Geographic Board of Canada, 31 March 1924, as labelled on BC map 2A, 1913.

Named "Narrow Island" in 1859 by Captain Richards, RN, and so-labelled on British Admiralty Chart 579, 1860 et seq. Re-named by Captain John F. Parry, RN, upon resurveying the area in 1905; in association with Houston Passage, after Captain Wallace Houston, RN, HMS Trincomalee, who was on the Pacific Station 1853-56.
