Adopted 9 September 1924 on Geological Survey sheet 2044, Creston, as a well-established local name; so-labelled on BC Mines map "East & West Kootenay Districts", published to accompany 1897 BC Mines Report, and on Geological Survey sheet 791, Kootenay District, 1900, and on BC Lands map "Kootenay Valley Lands", 1908, and on BC map 1EM, 1915 et seq.

A dyke was constructed by BC Hydro at the north end of the nesting area of Duck Lake, thus creating an 850-acre area where a constant water level could be maintained (Progress magazine, winter 1971-72)
