"Suggested by myself and Chas T. Townsend while on a two-weeks climbing trip in September 1923: Mount Diavolo and Mount Angelo... the 'heavenly twins' so-called because of the sudden change of weather the day they were first ascended." (24 October 1927 letter from Neal M. Carter, file G.1.28)

Diavolo Peak named by Charles T. Townsend and Neal M. Carter, who made the first ascent 18 September 1923. Diavolo is an Italian word, meaning "devil"; so-named because of the steep rotten arête and the blackish rock. They named its companion or subsidiary peak "Angelo" because it looked easy to climb, and angelic by comparison. First ascent of Angelo Peak credited to BC Mountaineering Club party, 15 August 1924.
