The original Tlingit name is K'ateil. This translates to "Gallon Mountain" - This mountain is shaped like a pitcher [and] that is how the name came to be. This mountain is on the way to Nakina, BC, that the people used to travel by on foot. (Information provided February 2013 by Teslin Tlingit Council, in turn provided in 1988 by Elder David Johnston, and in 1999 by Elder Matt Thom.)
