Bridge River (Post Office) adopted in the 1930 BC Gazetteer. Name changed to Shalalth (Post Office & Railway Station) in the 1953 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Shalalth (Community) 28 February 1983 on 92 J/9.

Shalalth Post Office was opened 1 November 1925, being the Indian name for Seton Lake. Renamed Bridge River Post Office 1 June 1927. Name changed back to Shalalth Post Office 16 June 1937.
