According to C. Jennings, Municipal Clerk at Whistler, 1978, this has sometimes been known by the fanciful names "River of Golden Dreams" or "Stream of Dreams"; a pioneer family named Philips, who built Rainbow Lodge in the 1920's, used to operate moonlight canoe trips between Alta Lake and Green Lake.

The creek to this day is locally known as "The River of Golden Dreams." Allegedly named by Alex Philip, proprietor of Rainbow Lodge, who originally named it "The River of Golden Dreams and Romance." Alex used to paddle Rainbow Lodge guests, including honeymooning couples, down the creek.(unattributed anecdote in the collection of the Whistler Museum, provided, April 2011)
