Named at the 1929 opening of the Dove Creek Trail into the Forbidden Plateau, as recommended by Courtenay City Council, after Julian I. Piggott, intended husband of Helen Maud Hutton Mackenzie, Chatelaine for her uncle, His Honour Robert Randolph Bruce, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. Mr. Piggott was the youngest son of the late Sir Francis and Lady Piggott, of Greenmeadows, Cowes, Isle of Wight; he first came to Canada in the winter of 1928-29 with Mr. Corder, on behalf of the steel trade, and was appointed manager of the newly founded British Steel Export Association. Piggott and Miss Mackenzie left Victoria 14 February 1930, to marry in England. No indication in BC names files that they returned to British Columbia.
