Origin Notes and History:

"Nigger Lake" adopted in the 1930 Gazetteer of Canada. Name changed to "Negro Lake" 3 May 1961 on Pincher Creek Sectional Map #14 and Ottawa File OBF 3177. "Negro Lake" rescinded as an official name 6 February 2023 as proposed from a resident due to the derogatory nature; no replacement name officially adopted for the lake.
