Klinkit Creek and Klinkit Lake were named after the Klinkit Indians, inhabitants of the area. Also widely known as Moose Creek and Moose Lake.

Moose Creek and Klinkit Creek are not the same streams, as had been understood in 1951. February 2013 advice from Teslin Tlingit Council is that Moose Creek (whose original Tlingit name is Dzisk'u Heeni) flows southerly into Klinkit Creek at 59°33'35 x 131°09'39, below Klinkit Lake.
