Adopted 22 February 1963 on 83D as labelled on BC map 3J, 1942. Altered application 7 April 1965 on 83D-C. Presumed to be descriptive.

Name originally applied to the more northerly branch. Field survey in 1965 confirmed that the creek flows out of Blackstone Glacier, therefore the name should be applied to the more southerly branch (file C.1.62). Still mis-labelled on federal 83D/12, 1986.
