Named after the prospector who first investigated and worked a small mine at the source of [Fitzsimmons] creek. Also Fitzsimmons Glacier.

After James Fitzsimmons, prospector, who staked a copper claim near the creek c1900 and had a cabin in Singing Creek (Avalanche) Pass between Fitzsimmons Creek and Cheakamus Lake.
