Name required for geological reporting purposes; the logical name "Eagle Lake" (because of its position at the head of Eagle River) would have lead to confusion because of numerous duplicates throughout the province, so "Eaglehead" was recommended.

The Kaska name for Eagle Lake is Ehda Manè' (Guzagi K'úgé, published by Kaska Tribal Council, Watson Lake, 1997). Origin/meaning not provided. [Note that it is not clear which "Eagle Lake" the name applies to.]
