After Charlie MacDonald, the patriarch of the Grand Lake Indians, who was living near this creek in 1944 when topographic surveys were completed. This is the watercourse named "McDonnell River" by F.K. McKusker, DLS, and so-labelled on his map prepared from the 1931 Mary Henry expedition (file S.1.36). Likely refers to the same person.
