July Creek adopted 6 October 1955 on 82E, as labelled on Triangulation Survey of Boundary Creek Country, 1897, and on Geological Survey of Canada map #828, Boundary Creek Mining District, 1905, and on BC Lands' map 1EM, 1915, and map 4K, 1923, etc.

Length of the stream = 8 miles (length in BC = 6.5 miles). Labelled "4th of July Creek" on Boundary Atlas drawings, 1901. Identified as "4th July Creek" on 1921 survey plan of Lots 3229, 3230 (Field Book 221/21, ph 20, SDYD), where name is extended along the upstream channel that is now called Snowshoe Creek.
