Pemberton's 1855 map, "Southeastern Districts of Vancouver Island", and on 1858 British Admiralty Chart, in turn adapted from Lieutenant James Wood's chart of 1847. Significance not known. Known locally as "Deadmans Island" because Royal Navy personnel were buried here beginning in the 1850's. To make room for a gun emplacement, all were re-interred in the 1890's to a small cemetery on today's Gorge Vale golf course.
