Origin Notes and History:
Evelyn (Post Office & Station) adopted 6 October 1936 on Geological Survey sheet 368A, Hudson Bay Mountain, as labelled on BC Lands' map 3D, 1913. Form of name changed to Evelyn (Station); subsequently adjusted to Evelyn (Railway Point).

Evelyn Post Office was opened 16 November 1923, named in association with the railway station, in turn named in 1912 after the daughter of W.P. Hinton, vice president and general manager of Grand Trunk Pacific Railway Company when the railway went through. The Post Office was closed 30 September 1953; at the time of closing, the post office was situated on NW 1/4 Sec 33, Tp 1A. [note: Kathlyn Lake Station was named after Hinton's other daughter.]

By telephone, March 1965, the story circulating locally is that the station had been named after Evelyn Smithers, after whose father the settlement of Smithers was said to have been named. (Provincial Archives' advised that this is not the correct origin of the name.)
