Origin/significance not recorded; presumably named in 1860 by Captain Richards or in 1864 by Captain Pender. The original (1862) edition of Admiralty Chart 580 is not in BC toponymy collection, however various small features surrounding Prideaux Haven are labelled on the 1864 edition with family or given names: Edward Point, Eveleigh Island, Ellen Point, Laura Cove, Mary Island, Melanie Cove, Morgan Island, Paige Islets, William Island....
