Named in 1929 by A.J. Campbell, BCLS, after Dr. Neal Marshall Carter, FRGS, in recognition of Carter's excellent mapping of the area as a mountaineer. Carter was born at Vancouver in 1902, attended UBC and was graduated from McGill University in 1929; associate chemist and oceanographer, Pacific Biological Station, Nanaimo, 1930-33; director, Pacific Fisheries Experimental Station at Prince Rupert, 1933-42; at Vancouver, 1942 onwards. Carter was a prominent member of the BC Mountaineering Club, and is credited with many first ascents in Garibaldi Park in 1922-23, and mapping a large section of the Park in the early days. Obituary in Canadian Alpine Journal Vol LXI, 1978, p.60. Also Mount Neal.
