Probably named after Auguste Boulanger, who took up land in this area in May 1903 and in 1910 & 1911 operated the government ferry which ran across the Fraser River at Quesnel. After his arrival, M.Boulanger anglicized his name to August Baker, and was known locally as "Augie" Baker. (information provided 8 March 1934 by Mr. C.E. Tildesley).
