"Columbia Gardens (Post Office & Station), not Sayward" was adopted in the 1930 BC Gazetteer, as labelled on BC map 1EM, 1915; confirmed 2 June 1950 on 82F/4. Form of name changed to Columbia Gardens (community) 3 January 1980 on 82F/4.

"Columbia Gardens was so named because of a large orchard planted here, to show that smoke from the Trail smelter would not harm the trees."
