Named by Basil S. Darling and Alan B. Morkill, soon after they made the first ascent in 1914, alluding to ALPHA, the first letter of the Greek alphabet, because this peak is the first (southeast) summit of the Alpha-Serratus-Tantalus-Zenith Ridge, and also because of its form. (April 1940 letter from W. H. Matthews, file S.3.51)
