Colbourne Creek adopted 1 April 1924 as recommended by BC Geographic Division; not "Valley Creek" as had been labelled on BC map 1G, 1916.

Named to remember BC Land Surveyor Lieutenant Eric Krabbe Colbourne MC, killed in action 27 June 1915.

"...Second Lieutenant Eric Krabble Colbourne, MC (1888-1915); came to Victoria from Brackenham, Kent, in 1907; articled to Frank Devereux, BCLS, and obtained his commission as a Land Surveyor in 1912; married Florence Marion Gillespie, December 1912; obtained a commission in the 3rd Royal Berkshire Regiment in January 1915; died at Chognes 27 June 1915 of wounds received in action; awarded the Military Cross posthumously, for conspicuous gallantry at Cuinchy a few days before his death."
