Named by Ralph Edwards who lived beside the lake with his wife Ethel and their 3 children. Ralph and Ethel Edwards are credited with having done more to protect trumpeter swans from extinction than anyone else, detailed in a 1957 bestseller by Leland Stowe called "Crusoe of Lonesome Lake." In a 17 April 1972 TV interview Edwards explained that when he first came to the lake in the winter of 1912, not a creature was to be seen so he called it Lonesome Lake.
