Origin Notes and History:

Nigger Mountain adopted 2 June 1950. Name changed to Mount Jeldness 1 November 1967 on 82F/4, as proposed by BC Geographic Division.

Re-named after Olaus Jeldness, a miner and accomplished skiier who came to Rossland in 1896 at the age of 29; his enthusiastic promotion helped establish Rossland as a ski centre in Canada. (See "Rossland, the Golden City" published by Rossland Miner Ltd, 1949, pp 17-19.)
