Adopted 14 August 1952 on 104J/6 as appears on Reference Map 922A "Canadian Cordillera" (1948). Likely named in association with Nahlin River.

Recorded that Rose Dennis of Dease Lake, indicated that this Tahltan word means "water pouring down" pronounced Nah-ah-LEEN. Jackie Williams, Atlin, indicates this is similar to a Tlingit word meaning "walk up to the next village".
