Named by Garibaldi Park Board, after Basil S. Darling, a pioneering climber in the area. See Darling's article "Winter Mountaineering at the Coast" and his photographs of The Lions in Canadian Alpine Journal vol II, 1910, p.198.

Named c1928 after Basil S. Darling, Victoria; retired Bank of Montreal accountant and alpinist. Born at Toronto 1885; came to Vancouver 1908; a pioneer alpinist in the Vancouver and Hose Sound regions; relocated to Toronto 1916; relocated to Victoria 1926.
