Joseph William McKay of the Hudson's Bay Company was his way in 1859 and, according to Lieutenant Mayne of the Royal Navy, who visited the lake in 1861, gave the name. Whether McKay's interest was botanical, familial, or amatory remains unknown.

Daisy Lake and Shadow Lake flooded behind the BC Hydro dam constructed on Cheakamus River - the expanded pondage to be called Daisy Lake.
