Origin Notes and History:

Barriere (Station) adopted 11 August 1921 as labelled on BC Lands' map 1EM, 1915, and as identified in Geological Survey Summary Report 1921, Pt A, p.72. Form of name changed to Barrière (Post Office & Railway Station) 3 March 1955 on 92 P; further changed to Barrière (community) 15 December 1982 on 92 P/1. Incorporated as a District Municipality, to be known as "District of Barriere" per Order in Council #654, 4 October 2007, effective 4 December 2007. [note that name is spelled without a grave accent over the first 'e' in the enabling Letters Patent.]

Barrière Post Office was opened 1 February 1914, named in association with the adjacent Barrière River. Post Office closed 1 May 1915.
