Origin Notes and History:

Translation: "real river". The name has also been written Wak'a'nakw. This former village site was utilized by the Kwakiutl, Kwiksootainuk and Kweeha Nations. Boas (1969:35) identifies this as the place of origin of the Kwakiutl and Kweeha.
