Origin Notes and History:
Peace River-Liard Regional District was incorporated per Order in Council effective 31 October 1967; name confirmed 4 April 1974 on MCR-5, sheet 3. Split into 2 regional districts: Fort Nelson-Liard Regional District and Peace River Regional District, per OIC 2123/87 effective 22 October 1987. Fort Nelson Regional District was renamed Northern Rockies Regional District, per OIC 374/99 effective 26 March 1999 and published in the British Columbia Gazette 28 October 1999. Letters Patent for the Northern Rockies Regional District are revoked effective 6 February 2009. [at the same time, a new district municipality was incorporated, to be known as Northern Rockies Regional Municipality, encompassing the same boundary as the former Regional District, with the exception of Indian Reserves, and also the former Town of Fort Nelson.]
