Origin Notes and History:

Sun Peaks (community) adopted 9 April 1997 on 82 L/13. Form of name changed to Sun Peaks (recreational community) 2 March 2005. Incorporated under the Municipal Act as a Mountain Resort Municipality per Order in Council 159, 25 March 2010, effective 28 June 2010, to be known as Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality.

"Sun Peaks" is a name created by developers of the ski resort on the south face of Mount Tod. Proposal by developers to change the name of the mountain to Sun Peaks, to enhance promotional opportunities in Europe, was rejected.
