Adopted in the 9th Report of the Geographic Board of Canada, 30 June 1910, for Dominion Chart #302. Confirmed 3 July 1946 on C3702, and 3 April 1952 on 103J. Name rescinded 27 January 1976 on C3701.

Descriptive name, given in 1897 for the outlook to Venn Passage. Structural work in Prince Rupert Harbour has obliterated the natural feature, and the Fairview Container Terminal is located in this general area. "Fairview Point lay 8 cables [1483m or .92 mile] north of Casey Point." (Sailing Directions, 1974, p.181)
