Origin Notes and History:
Boss Mountain identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer, in association with Boss Triangulation Station here. Boss Mountain approved by Geographic Board of Canada 28 April 1936 on map 3G. Name changed to "Takomkane Mountain" 1 September 1960 on 93A, the local name according to 1957 advice from R.D. McCaw, BCLS, and as labelled on his 1936 map 93A/2, and on BC Lands' map 3G, 1949 & 1957. Name further changed to Big Timothy Mountain 2 March 1961 on 93A, to reflect entrenched and preferred local usage. "The Indian name for Big Timothy Mtn...is Ta-kom-kane. That is simple and easily spelled & pronounced, and would be recognized by all the Indians here, and would soon be learned by the whites." (January 1938 letter from Major E.B.Hart; LI 1266432, file 826197 / 01863).
