Adopted 15 October 1973 on 82 NW, 83 SW, MCR5 sheet 3, as named by Cabinet (Victoria Times, 10 August 1973), referring to the pondage behind Mica Dam, informally called "Mica Reservoir". Name changed to Kinbasket Lake 7 February 1980 by unanimous approval of Cabinet, as recommended 5 February 1980 to full Cabinet by Cabinet Committee on Economic Development. Name was changed in response to local public pressure to reinstate the historic name, Kinbasket.
