Named in 1911 by Dr. J. Collie and A.L. Mumm, after Miss Bessie Gunn, of Lac Ste. Anne, Alberta, later the wife of M.C. McKeen, MLA for Lac Ste. Anne. Also Bess Pass and Bess Creek (on the Alberta side). Significance of this gesture not explained.
