Land donated by MacMillan Bloedel; initial discussions had stipulated that the park be named for MB's retiring chairman Ray Smith, which stipulation was later retracted. Named in association with Dionisio Point, in turn named after the Spanish naval explorer, Commander Dionisio Alcala Galiano.
