Adopted 29 January 1985 on 92 L/4 as submitted by the Provincial Museum's Brooks Peninsula Expedition.

Date of expedition:1981. So-named by expedition members: their research indicates that peaks above approximately 700 m in this range were above glacial ice during the last ice age, and acted as refruges (Refrugium) for unique plants and plant communities.
